Physical Therapy for the Body Behind the Swing

The Golf Physical Therapy and Performance Assessment

Golf performance

This assessment may be a good fit if you:

  • Have pain during or after golf
  • Feel stiff or restricted in your swing
  • Have lost strength, power, or distance
  • Struggle with balance or control
  • Keep dealing with the same injury
  • Want to return to golf after an injury or surgery
  • Feel like your body is limiting what you’re trying to accomplish with your golf pro
  • Simply want to understand how your body is functioning for golf

Why Work with a Golf Specialist

Limited hip rotation? A stiff thoracic spine? Poor balance? Loss of strength or power? A shoulder, back, hip, or knee that hurts every time you play?

Sometimes the thing holding back your golf game isn’t your swing—it’s what your body can comfortably and consistently do.

What does it entail?

The Alpine Fit Golf Physical Therapy & Performance Assessment is a 60-minute assessment designed to identify the physical factors that may be affecting your golf game and give you a clear plan for what to work on next.

We’ll assess:

  • Hip and thoracic rotation
  • Shoulder and ankle mobility
  • Strength and power
  • Core and rotational control
  • Balance and single-leg stability
  • Golf-specific movement patterns
  • Current pain or injury limitations
  • Your training, playing history, and goals

What you’ll leave with:

This isn’t just an assessment—it’s a roadmap. By the end of your session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of:

  • The physical strengths you already bring to your golf game

  • The 2–3 mobility, strength, or movement factors most relevant to your goals

  • What may be contributing to pain, restriction, or difficulty with your swing

  • Specific recommendations for what to work on next

You’ll leave with a personalized plan to help your body better support the way you want to play—whether your goal is getting out of pain, improving performance, or simply playing more golf for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a Golf Movement & Performance Assessment?

A: A 60-minute, one-on-one assessment with a Doctor of Physical Therapy that looks at mobility, strength, balance, rotational control and golf-specific movement patterns to identify physical factors that may be affecting your golf game.

Q: Do I need to be injured to benefit from golf physical therapy?

A: No. Some golfers come in because of back, hip, shoulder, knee or other pain, while others simply want to understand whether mobility, strength or movement limitations may be affecting their performance.

Q: Is this the same as a golf lesson or swing analysis?

A: No. Your golf professional is the expert in your swing. We focus on the body behind the swing—your mobility, strength, stability, balance and physical capacity. When appropriate, we’re happy to collaborate with your golf instructor.

Q: What will you assess?

A: Your assessment may include hip and thoracic rotation, shoulder and ankle mobility, strength and power, core and rotational control, balance, single-leg stability and golf-specific movement patterns. The assessment is individualized based on your history and goals.

Q: What will I leave with after the assessment?

A: You’ll have a clearer understanding of your physical strengths, the 2–3 factors most relevant to your golf goals, and personalized recommendations for what to work on next.

Q: Can you help with pain during golf?

A: Yes. We work with golfers experiencing common issues such as back, hip, shoulder, elbow and knee pain. Your physical therapist will assess what may be contributing to your symptoms and determine an appropriate plan.

Q: Do I need ongoing physical therapy after the assessment?

A: Not necessarily. The assessment is designed to give you useful information on its own. If ongoing physical therapy or performance work could help you reach your goals, we’ll discuss those options with you.

Q: How do I get started?

A: If you’re ready to get started you can schedule a  free consult to speak with a physical therapist about your symptoms and learn whether the Alpine Fit Golf Physical Therapy & Performance Program is a good fit for you.
