I’m back to hiking again!
After seeing my orthopedist regularly, for four months for an ankle injury, my recovery was going very slowly. He prescribed that I begin physical treatment with a holistic physical therapist. I had met Kyle several years ago at various meetings and was very impressed with her knowledge and understanding of the mind/ body relationship and how she applied it to her physical therapy and nutrition practices. As a result, I immediately contacted her .
When we began working together, I was having difficulty walking, climbing stairs or performing any of the sports I regularly participated in. I was depressed and in a great deal of pain. There was also a rare complication to the original injury that seven practitioners from various specialties were unable to diagnose. Upon examining my ankle at the first appointment, Kyle knew exactly what the issue was, since she had treated patients with the disorder. She explained at length what caused the complication and that it was difficult, but not impossible to treat. Using a combination of range of motion exercises, massage, cranial sacral work, breathing techniques to alleviate pain, weight bearing exercises and an extensive home plan, I gradually improved.
I was encouraged to rest more and meditate regularly, which has changed my life. The first time Kyle said I could take a ten minute walk, she advised that I stop, rest and meditate before returning to my car. Slowing, my walking time increased, the same with swimming : “baby steps” for returning to the pool. Finally, taking short hikes. The increments for all of the activities were gradually increased.
I could never have achieved this much improvement, without Kyle’s patience, compassion, knowledge and understanding. Each time we met, we reviewed the problems, as well as the progress. Kyle encouraged me how to focus on the improvements and gradually I continued to get better.
I am delighted to say that I have “graduated” from physical therapy and am diligent with doing the weight bearing exercises Kyle recommended. I still have some pain, but practice the mindfulness and massage techniques Kyle taught me to minimize some of the discomfort. The great news is I’m back to hiking again, one my loves in life! I have already referred a friend to Kyle and would happily refer anyone else to her.
